Dr Clare McNaught is the 177th and current president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), having assumed office in November 2025. Dr. McNaught has had a long and distinguished involvement with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), holding a variety of leadership and educational roles over more than a decade. She has served as:

Examiner for RCSEd surgical exams;
Regional Surgical Ambassador for Yorkshire;
Editor of Surgeons’ News;
Founder and Chair of the Younger Fellows’ Committee;
Honorary Secretary of the College.

In June 2025, Dr. McNaught was elected President of RCSEd, becoming the first woman in the College’s 520-year history to hold the office. She succeeded Professor Rowan Parks and officially took office in November 2025 at the College’s Annual General Meeting.
