Advanced Certificate in Clinical Education: As of January 2026, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), which often collaborates with or shares naming conventions with the Canadian Royal College, offers this for professionals in education theory and practice. Diploma of the Royal College (DRCPSC): Awarded to physicians who complete an Area of Focused Competence (AFC) program. Recent updates in 2024 and 2025 include new credentials in Trauma General Surgery and refined eligibility for diplomate status. Subspecialist Affiliate Status: A newer restricted certificate of registration pathway allows the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) to issue licenses to physicians who have the RCPSC Subspecialist Affiliate status but lack primary specialty certification. 

Streamlined Paths to Certification (2024-2025)

  • Practice Eligibility Route (PER) Update: Effective May 2025, the required practice duration for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) seeking full FRCPC/FRCSC certification was reduced from five years to two years to accelerate the licensing process.
